Take Two

I can't believe it's been almost a year since my first post! I remember how excited I was... and then nothing.

Let's try this again.

It has been 11 months and counting, and it pains my heart, but Haiti is still where we 'left' her, in desperation or dare I say an even worse predicament than that? Now, there's a cholera outbreak epidemic. As if their problems were not enough, with the scarcity of everything under the sun; Shelter, Food, Clean water, Clothing, Medicine, Education... I could go on.

This image has stayed with me, there's just something about it...
Haiti, sometimes I get a one min flash of you on the news, yes, i've timed it, before they move on to more important topics like details of celebrities and their cheating spouses or long segments on how you can save big on Black Friday! Have we forgotten about you?

What about me? When was the last time I donated? 3 months? 6 months ago?! I've spent so much money on things that I don't need or even necessarily want, if I had donated at least half of that... I mean, I always pray for you Haiti, but I could back it up with actions like continuing to create awareness and donating myself. I can definitely do better.

Please visit UNICEF or, text "YELE" to 501501 (US only) to donate. Setup reminders to continue to donate, create awareness through social mediums like twitter and Facebook, tell a friend and please continue to keep Haiti in your prayers. God bless you as you donate.

HOPE, FAITH, LOVE...HAITI

I'm not really good with introductions, for instance, I always have to remind myself when I call people to first say Hi, and inquire about their day before stating my purpose, not because I don’t care, but like I said, I'm not very good with introductions... Even now I laugh as I recall I how I hate writing essays because I always, ALWAYS get stuck on the first paragraph! sheesh! I'm learning though...

With that being said...or is it 'being written'? ...see what I mean?

Let’s try this again...

With that being said, I'm not entirely sure how this blog will evolve but I’m excited to go on this journey, hoping as I write, I grow and learn more and share more... As I begin my life as a blogger in the sea of blog ville, my heart bleeds for Haiti who just 10 days ago, suffered a magnitude 7.0 earthquake, as if they haven't suffered enough when it comes to natural and political disasters.

Images on CNN of people in Haiti, strong souls singing and praising their God even as they are surrounded by devastation: rubble, dead and dying people, orphans, not sure where their next meal will come from or when. As I write, Anderson Cooper of CNN just shared a story about a little boy, rescued after 8 days from underneath a pile of rubble that killed the rest of his family. Two days later and he already looks healthy, gone is sunken look and severe dehydration he had when he was first rescued. Now if that's not a miracle then I don’t know what is.

I couldn't find a picture of the boy but the picture shown above is of a 7 year old boy, Kiki, who was rescused 8 days after being trapped in rubble of what used to be his home. He is being handed over to his overjoyed and weeping mother... Below are some other pictures out of Haiti;

Back to the singing people of Haiti... Singing, despite all the loss and the destruction, most in Port-au-Prince with no place to call their home but yet, singing and clapping their hands and praising their God. This has to be what hope means...hope and faith that no matter the circumstances there is still the promise of tomorrow. It reminds me of Hebrews 11: 1 "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

The people of Haiti are strong, I am in awe of their strength and I think this disaster has shown the world first hand what true strength and determination means. What real heroism is all about and brotherly love. Hope, Faith and Love all play a part especially in this horrific devastation... I think all over the world there's a new found respect for the people of Haiti, being surrounded by all this chaos and still having the strength to go on... I know I do.

Please show your support for Haiti by donating to HOPE FOR HAITI NOW and you can also check out a list of charities by going to CNN's charity navigator. God bless you as you donate, and 3, 6, 9 months from now, let's remember Haiti and continue to show our support for her and her people.
